President Rodrigo Duterte opened his weekly televised address with rants about Vice President Leni Robredo on Tuesday night, November 17.

The president showed his anger towards VP Robredo by hitting her with false accusations and threats regarding the 2022 election. Duterte called Robredo ‘dishonest’ and ‘incapable of truth’ related to the trending hashtag #NasaanAngPangulo during the intense flooding brought by typhoon Ulysses.

“Hindi ako natutulog. Ganito ‘yan Vice President. Makinig ka. Baka hindi nakinig noong una. Sabi ko noon sa tao, sa press con that I am a night person. I work on state documents sa gabi. My day begins at 2 (p.m.) hanggang sa gabi na walang limit,” Duterte to Robredo.

The VP denied the claim on her tweeter post and called out Secretary Panelo for peddling fake news to the president.

Duterte told that Robredo is lying and that he was attending the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit but also asking for typhoon updates from government officials. He also claimed that Robredo had done nothing but to call for helicopters. Duterte warned her not to compete with him.

“Kaya ako lumipad sa Bicol, inunahan mo pa ako pakunwari. But do not compete with me and do not start a quarrel with me kasi ikaw wala ka talagang ginawa except ‘yung mga tawag-tawag,” Duterte said.

Robredo answered him with a video tweet of her team packing for relief goods to help the victims.

She also stated that “Sa panahon ng matinding sakuna, dapat lahat na tulong, welcome. Hindi ito contest. Hindi tayo nag uunahan. Lahat tayo dapat nagtutulong tulong para sa ating mga kababayan.”

Moreover, the president threatened her with the 2022 elections saying, “When you start your campaign, kung magtakbo ka ng Presidente, waswasan kita nang husto. This is your nightmare,” said Duterte.
