President Rodrigo Roa Duterte revealed on September 26 that he offered to resign as president of the Republic of the Philippines because of the rampant corruption in the country.
I offered to resign as President. Pinatawag ko ‘yung lahat ng… Sabi ko na I have — kasi nagsasawa na ako,” President Duterte expressed during his weekly national address. “Talagang wala ng katapusan itong corruption. Mahirap talaga pigilin,” he added.
“Maski ‘yang mga pastilas, hanggang ngayon. Even with the investigation or the clamor for government to shake the tree, wala, hanggang ngayon it’s being committed every day. Can you stop it? You cannot, there is no way,” he said. Since he joined the government as a prosecutor, Davao City Mayor, and then as president in 2016, PRRD said he has seen that corruption could not be stopped.
Meanwhile, President Duterte is unlikely to resign despite claiming that he made such an offer on Monday.
