Mayor Vico Sotto said the local government of Pasig City has ordered 400,000 doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 Vaccine on Sunday.

According to Sotto, many of the LGUs signed a tripartite agreement with the British Pharmaceutical firm AstraZeneca and the national government for the advance purchase of the Novel Coronavirus-19 vaccine worth P100 million.

“Actual quantity & date of delivery will depend on several factors,” he said on Twitter earlier. “We’ll buy from others too as opportunities arise.”

Metro Manila has currently a total of 213,000 COVID-19 confirmed cases, 201,000 recoveries, and 3,833 deaths. Now, a lot of vaccines have been developed to stop the continuous spread of the virus. Besides the problem of budget to purchase and the limited number of doses, one of the difficulties is to convince people to take the shots.

Regarding this, Mayor Vico Sotto encourages the public to rebuild their trust in vaccines and experts. “If not for vaccines, diseases like smallpox, polio, and measles would still be widespread,” Sotto in Pasig City’s flag-raising ceremony.

He also enumerated the advantages of the AstraZeneca vaccine. It is relatively cheaper at $5 per dose and easier to transport and store (normal refrigeration). Although has slightly lower efficacy than others, it is still very acceptable at 70% up to 90% with an adjusted dose.
