New Quarantine Classifications for August 19 to 31

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte addressed the Philipines last night, 17th of August 2020. As of what the Filipinos are expecting, he announced the new quarantine classifications effective until the end of the month. We can remember that he placed Metro Manila, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal back to Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine on August 4 to respond with the stricter protocols asked by our medical frontliners.

The novel coronavirus outbreak in our country is continuously rising at an alarming rate. We currently have 164,000 confirmed cases, 113,000 recoveries, and 2,681 deaths. These statistics are nothing compared with the loved ones we lose during the invisible battle against the fatal COVID-19. The medical community is now in distress for the hospitals are now overwhelmed and our health workers are already exhausted. Besides the health sector, the Philippine economy drop due to this big crisis and the government should find a solution to save it in the midst of the pandemic.

To pull up the falling economy, business activities should operate again, thus the administration needs to ease the quarantine classifications especially for Mega Manila which is the heart of our economy. Although the city mayors are requesting again for tighter protocols because of serious viral infections, President Duterte placed the National Capital Region under General Community Quarantine (GCQ) effective August 19 until August 31, 2020. Likewise, he also reverted the provinces of Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal from MECQ to GCQ. The other areas placed under GCQ are Nueva Ecija, Batangas, Quezon in Luzon, Iloilo City, Cebu City, Lapu-Lapu City, Mandaue City, Talisay City, the Municipalities of Minglanilla and Consolacion in Cebu province for the Visayas. The rest of the country are placed under MECQ.
