Scientists around the world are trying to make an effective vaccine for the Corona Virus Disease of 2019. In fact, there are more than 160 vaccine candidates in different phases of trials and more than 30 potential vaccines are already in the crucial human trials phase. Several laboratories in the world are engaged with global racing and competing for the first vaccine that will end this pandemic.

Recently, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that they already have a COVID-19 vaccine, defeating other countries worldwide. It was named ‘Sputnik V’ inspired by the first orbital satellite launched by Russia in 1957. In spite of their victory, the vaccine is questionable for medical experts because it has not yet undergone phase 3 trials, and can cause danger to some people.

On the other hand, the inactivated vaccine for novel coronavirus developed by The Wuhan Institute of Biological Products is likely to be available on the market by the end of December 2020, at a price of approximately 1,000 Yuan or $144 for two shots. According to the head of the state-owned Chinese company Sinopharm, Liu Jingzhen, the vaccine candidate is now on its phase 3 of human trials, the last stage before the vaccine will be approved. He said that it will possibly be pushed out commercially by late December and the price will not be high, with two shots costing less than 1,000 Yuan only. Regarding the two doses, the first one will provide about 97 percent protection against the virus and with two doses, the probability of protection will reach 100 percent.
